Ciara is really slaying the magazine’s 2013 ‘Diane’ issue. I think it’s because she can pull off androgyny really well and her bone structure is so right. In the mag, she speaks on a number of topics including the release of her latest single, ‘Body Party’, (dropping on iTunes tomorrow on March 12th), her new boyfriend Future and how her upcoming album, ‘One Woman Army’ reveals her vulnerable side. The album will reportedly drop in June but if this new song doesn’t take off, well, we’ve already seen how LA Reid put Melanie Amaro‘s head on a spit.

So let’s hope and pray this Rihanna feud gives her the extra sales so this project can see a release for once and for all. The March/April issue of the magazine will be available from March 18th. Check out some highlights and watch Ciara’s cover teaser video below!

Justin performed ‘Suit & Tie’ with some help from his band, the Tennessee Kids and his ‘Legends of the Summer’ tour mate Jay-Z. He even added a new line responding to Kanye West‘s criticism of the hit song: “My hit so sick got rappers actin’ dramatic!” This was so thinly unveiled that it was all types of slick! This did not deter Kanye’s supposed to be older brother from coming out and gleefully rapping his verses like it was nothing. Ha!

Kanye’s reprisal is going to be so out there that JT is bound to sweat real hard causing his straight hair to frizz up and go back curly again! After his charming performance of ‘Suit’, the tuxedo-clad crooner later performed his UK #1 hit single ‘Mirrors’. JT is gearing up to release his third studio album ‘The 20/20 Experience’ in little over a week and he’s practically been everywhere as of late. Check out all the action below!

This serves as the final plug because the single just got released today in the UK (March 10th). See here folk, America will not stand for this tripe, so she unloads on us British souls instead. The performance was boring so don’t waste your time watching it (her Comic Relief performance was more energetic). The interview was slightly more interesting. She says the album is not finished yet and she doesn’t intend to rush it. And she didn’t leave the Pussycat Dolls. They left HER. Um, we don’t believe you.

Directed by Derek Blanks, the visual is centered around Ms. Michele and her love interest enjoying every aspect of their romantic relationship. The video is everything I expected especially for the type of song that it is. But she looks like a ghetto hoodrat in this video. Everything from the unflattering lipstick, the tattoos and even the piercing. It’s not difficult to see she’s a very pretty lady, so why devalue that natural beauty?

On a positive note, this song remains dope as hell. It’s not really strong enough to carry an album (another case of the record label not knowing what to do with her) but for the strictly R&B lover, this is pure Gold. Rihanna had a good crowd last night. I hope everyone that attended the show felt they got their money’s worth. I attended a family birthday bash this week and asked all of my cousins if they were going to see Rihanna this summer. They all screwed up their faces (lol) and most of us expressed our excitement about attending ‘The Mrs Carter Show’! Looking at some of the videos on Youtube shows I won’t be missing out on much. The staging looked pretty and the vocals were really good, but the standard of dancing was just lazy to me.

As well as the awkward posture, she seemingly had a constant attack of crabs down below. The setlist was also odd too. ‘Mother Nature’ was a very poor choice to start off a pop concert, and ‘We Found Love’ should have been the main closer. Some of the songs were just unnecessary. ‘Love the Way You Lie’ and ‘All of the Lights’ were complete wasters and ‘Cold Case Love’ was just random as hell. I love the song (one of my favourites off ‘Rated R’) but this should have been replaced with ‘Love Without Tragedy’. She performed several cuts from her latest album, while throwing in her most popular hits from past albums as well.

The outfits were not eye-catching at all. Was this a concert? Or an actual fashion show?!!?! Some of them could easily have been lifted from her River Island collection.

Solo dropped the project digitally last November and the physical edition drops on March 11th through Opening Ceremony’s website. Fans can also purchase it online from the same site. The boutique store also provided the clothes for the shoot, which was snapped by New York artist Mickalene Thomas. Solange brings the fierce, the cool, and the swag to the very contrasting artwork. Under normal circumstances, this would actually be a hot bumbling mess. But given that it’s Solange, she really does bring the cool to it.

The eclectic hipster is clearly not afraid to push the boundaries. Always carving out a lane for herself. For that alone, you can appreciate it. Her full length studio album won’t happen until next year so until then, this will continue to receive some heavy rotation in my neck of the woods!

Alicia’s vocals have often cracked on many an occasion. Some days, she will sound like a cat being tortured by lit cigarettes and other days, she has her pleasant moments. This was one of her more pleasant moments I’m pleased to say. Last year I reported how Prince Phillip put his fingers inside his ears during Alicia’s set at the Royal Variety Performance. Audiences did not need the ear plugs at the ready but this is only the first day so she’s fresh and liberated.

When the tour takes its toll and she starts to get tired, we shall soon see if this is just a one-off. AK kicked off her ‘Set The World On Fire’ tour last night at the WaMu Theater in Seattle. Some of the hit records she belted out included ‘Girl On Fire’, ‘Fallin’, ‘Not Even the King’  and ‘Empire State of Mind’. The 24-city North American trek will run on until through April 18th before she takes the tour to Europe in May. Check out some live video and rehearsal footage below.

‘Get It Right’ is different for her because it has some spunky rock influences so I’m thinking she could have taken a risk with that rather than play it safe and go nowhere. The ‘amen’ brigade certainly packed out the Fillmore in Silver Spring, Maryland, during the invite-only event. You often get vibes from her performances making you feel as if you were right in church!

She looks great but it’s going to take more than some throaty growls and barefooted prowling for this project to see a major lift. ‘Lose to Win’ has only peaked at #38 on Billboard’s US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and the track has yet to make an impact on the Hot 100. I think Fanny is going to need to put out another new single before the album drops on April 23rd. It just seems like the most practical thing to do at this point.

“I didn’t receive what they did from a positive place. I’m not going at it with anybody. I’ve always thought that everything was cool ’cause I actually remember seeing Rihanna two years ago at the Met Gala after we had the little small back and forth. And from what I recall, everything was cool. In my mind, I operate from a place of love and support”.

She adds: “If you would have asked me about it up until this point, I would have nothing but good things to say ’cause I’m sincerely happy for her.”

The photo took me by surprise only because Melissa is a nobody. She masquerades as an ‘assistant’ that follows Rihanna around everywhere like a lapdog. I’d be trying to keep a low-profile if I were her. Rihanna has been blessed with a really successful career. She should be thankful and not spitting on those that are beneath her. The very people you snub your nose at are the same ones you will meet on your way DOWN. Ciara should not have responded to the bullsh*t. Sometimes you make yourself look better when you leave others to bask in their stupidity.

Artists like Christina Aguilera pull the plug on an entire album just because a lead single under-performs or because sales for an album remain ridiculously low. Of course the numbers will remain the same if you don’t plug the freaking record! I’m thinking, you selfish cow! If you don’t want to do this for yourself, at least do it for your fans. At the time of writing, Trey has sold 349,843 copies of ‘Chapter V’ in the States. Play his cards right and he could do Gold.

Anyway, the crooner dropped a trailer for his upcoming video ‘Fumble’, which highlights his life on the road while reflecting on lost love and more. Monday is when fans will be able to watch the video in its entirety. Be sure to check ESSENCE.com on March 11th for the exclusive world premiere.

The cut will be featured in Disney’s ‘The Wizard Of Oz’ prequel, ‘Oz: The Great And Powerful’. Mimi looks insanely glamorous in a black couture gown, while sitting on a stool in an empty room. A Mariah visual just wouldn’t be a Mariah visual without the singer breaking out her precious wind machines and showcasing those hand movements to full effect! Good vocals for her, but not amazing.

This is why her need to excessively illustrate her notes in thin air always cracks me up! Mariah’s scenes were interspersed with clips from the Sam Raimi-directed movie, which is the standard protocol for movie visuals. However, with David LaChapelle being known for his artistic brilliance, you’d think he’d come up with something more original and creative. Any director could have put this together. The film hit theaters today and features James Franco (who plays Oz) as well as Michelle Williams (Glinda), Mila Kunis (Wicked Witch of the West) and Rachel Weisz (wicked witch Evanora). The track is definitely one of her better offerings since 2009?s ‘Obsessed’. Now can we act like that tragic mess ‘Triumphant’ never happened pweeease?

“I saw that Beyoncé’s tracklisting just leaked and I’ve got a couple of joints on there, which is good news. I’m very happy about that”. For those not in the know, the alleged tracklist has collaborations with Lady Gaga, Azealia Banks, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Sia, Rihanna, Ne-Yo and Solange. If this sounds too good on paper, that’s because it bloody well is!

On the process of working with Beyoncé on the LP:

“I’ve heard some songs from the album so I knew what direction I should be going in. The last thing you want to do is write a song that makes no sense with the direction of the album, so she let me hear some stuff so I knew where to aim. Ne-Yo’s most successful Beyoncé hit was 2006?s ‘Irreplaceable’. I assume he won’t be talking about how much percentage of songwriting he allows her to get, since this is a very touchy subject and one that may have cost him a contribution to ‘I Am… Sasha Fierce’! As for this new single, hurry up! We want to see her perform it on tour!

The 23-year-old made many a negative headline this week. First one being, he was caught on camera cursing out a valet after he was ordered to pay a $10 parking fee (yes, we can understand the average Joe going off but you’re an effing millionaire so $10 should come as absolutely nothing, unless you’re going broke). The next bad episode is Chris reportedly kicking his long-term body guard Big Pat off a flight.

And then have him take another one after some dispute. And the third, (yes, there’s a third negative story), he hopped on stage at the Emerson Theatre in Hollywood last night where he went on a profanity-filled anti-Drake rant. That was spurred on when a woman DJ started spinning Drake’s song, ‘Started from the Bottom’. It was only recently he made negative headlines for his violent brawl with fellow R&B crooner Frank Ocean.

He will never be a favourite with the media (and other celebrities) simply because of the 2009 incident. That will stay with him for the rest of his life, no matter how much he tries to convince us that he’s a changed man. And these latest episodes do not show us he’s changed at all. The anger issues are clearly in full effect, giving media further ammunition to tear him down again. Any sensible person would just keep a low profile until they are ready to drop their new music. But for Chris Brown, that’s simply too much to ask. Going back to Rihanna has done him no favours because their relationship will always be viewed in contempt and he almost lost his career.

He actually had something good with Karrueche Tran, now infamously known as Rice Cake thanks to Rihanna and Melissa. Their relationship was actually care-free, had no controversy attached to it, and she was actually a sweetheart. But you can’t root for someone who is not willing to make way in return. Given that he started out with so much potential and promise, it’s really sad to see what he’s become.

It’s disgusting how she has been treated over the last year and a half. Simon Cowell first eliminated her from the competition, before deciding to bring her back and pulling for her to win. She eventually did win – a $5million contract which they made a big deal over due to it being the biggest ever offered to someone in reality TV history. She went on to release tardy dance numbers and cheesy pop songs such as ‘Don’t Fail Me Now’, ‘Love Me Now’ and ‘Long Distance’ – all of which failed to chart.

Neither song made any impact on the Billboard Hot 100. And now her debut album ‘Truly’ may never see a release. I’ve never seen that before. A reality show winner dropped BEFORE releasing a debut album? Wow. That’s shocking. She won the show in 2011, and now we’re in 2013. This is practically the longest time it has taken for a winner to release an album. The signs were clearly there. The problem is, the songs were really poor and did not necessarily reflect who she was as an artist. She was not singing those type of songs on the show, so why put her to sing those type of songs on her debut album? I always thought she’d try to appeal to the Adult Contemporary audience. Not teenyboppers that listens to Demi Lovato or Miley Cyrus.

Secondly, they just didn’t know how to market her, but then that’s kind of hard when the artist themselves has NO personality or obvious star quality. Still, they could have done so much more for her than provide insanely limited promo opportunities which more or less only consisted of her performing on the show. Fame-hungry scouters entering competitions needs to look much more closely at the contract they’re signing. You could be getting yourself into a right pickle and you should never sign anything that permits a record label to simply drop you when they’re the ones at fault. With the way her tour has been selling, Beyoncé is set to dominate those forthcoming Forbes lists soon. She’s reigning in those cheques but poor Keri Hilson is still reeling from online attacks years after she allegedly sniped at the singer in her ‘Turnin’ Me On’ remix. I hate to say it but you don’t mess with her fans, and when you do, you subject yourself to that treatment for life. More deets below.

Stans, it’s definitely time to move on!

The American Idol alum visited the WHUR radio studios yesterday in Washington, DC for an interview. She also played a new mellowed out R&B song, which goes by the title *drumroll* ‘If I Was A Bird’. Yes, although this was clearly unintended pun on her behalf, the jokes certainly do write themselves! I mean, c’mon. She’s like, the biggest piece of chicken you will ever come across. ‘If I Was A Bird’ (#3 on the tracklist) will make a nice album cut ONLY. It’s not an attention grabber and neither does it represent the “rock-soul” influences that she’s been touting us with recently. The arrangement is very Brandy-ish, but that is never a bad thing coming from a mega Brandy fan! Subject matter of being free from heartbreak is becoming a little too cliche for her but the subdue vocals and light harmonies are simply beautiful. Fantasia’s new album is slated to hit stores on April 23rd!

Uh oh. It seems Rihanna and her BFF Melissa Forde had some major laughs watching Ciara‘s bathroom performance last night. Forde posted this snap on Instagram of their little crew in London delighting at what they just watched. Melissa’s caption read: “#BodyParty (bathroom acapella version) #London *deuces*”. It’s not the first time Melissa came for Ciara’s wig. Remember this? Shortly after acknowledging Melissa’s sting with a retweet, Ciara responded on Twitter. According to the site, they will stock 15 copies of ‘Braveheart’ on June 4th, 20 months after she released the album’s lead single, the Busta Rhymes-assisted ‘The Woman You Love’ on December 15th 2011. All we ever get from Ashanti these days are Instagram photos of herself in the studio “crafting a hit record” in a desperate bid to convince fans that the album really is dropping this year (it won’t). She’s currently throwing herself into promoting her recurring new role in Lifetime’s series ‘Army Wives’. She looks beautiful in the ‘Army Wives’ promo and at least fans have something to look forward to, even if it’s not music:
