Solange shows sell out in an hour…

This week, Solange announced seven North American shows for February. After selling out in New York, London, and Paris, she will embark on a mini tour throughout the States and Canada. The eclectic songstress could not hide her joy at how quickly tickets were snatched up. “Can’t believe most of my shows sold out in an hour! I’m SO excited & thankful to all you guys. We gone f*ck sh*t up together that night!” she tweeted.

Solange’s ‘True’ tour kicks off February 5th in San Francisco and tickets are currently on sale now. She also confirms that the next single from her critically-acclaimed EP ‘True’ will be ‘Lovers in the Parking Lot’. It’s good to see that the rebellious Knowles sister is getting some momentum because she truly deserves it. Not enough people are knowing how talented she actually is. Finally, Solange’s comeback is set in stone!

Snapshots: Solange shoots music video for new single ‘Losing You’…

Solange Knowles, stepped into the mother land of South Africa this week, not just to shoot a glossy magazine cover shoot for Elle, but to film her new music video for upcoming new single ‘Losing You’. The news was confirmed today by Times Live, who also report that the video will be shot “documentary style” in and around Cape Town and slated to premiere next month (October). Meanwhile, here is a first look at her magazine shoot for Elle:

Stunning!

Solange describes her upcoming single as “eclectic with ’80s references and African percussion influences”. Make-up artist Jade Leggat also tweeted about the video shoot for ‘Losing You’ earlier today, which was shot at the Mickalene Thomas’ Brooklyn Art Studio. It feels like Solange has been recording her new album forever but at least her musical comeback is much more official now. I’ve posted some photos from the video shoot below.

More photos can be viewed here. Thanks George.

Solange randomly appears in Chromeo’s music video…

I guess I’m grasping at straws for posting this but…

Solange has been M.I.A from the music scene for quite sometime now. For several years (dating back 2009), she’s been in the studio recording the follow-up to her underperforming but fantastic sophomore album ‘Solange and The Hadley St. Dreams’. It’s the type of album you’d wish her sister Beyonce would have recorded several years ago.

Anyway, not only does she lend her vocals to Chromeo‘s latest single ‘When The Night Falls’, she pops up in their new music video and gets er, pregnant. I’m waiting for that new album very patiently but if this is a bite size of what’s to come, I’ll take what I can get! And she’s always shown an interest in exploring retro/indie sounds for her upcoming project. Check her out in the new visual below.

Cassie & Solange featured in new ‘Carol’s Daughter’ adverts…

As the latest new faces of Carol’s Daughter, Cassie and Solange are seen in new adverts modelling for the new Macadamia Heat Styling Collection. The multicultural brand helps ethnic women to to combat the heat when styling their hair with this new range. It includes a Heat Styling Hairspray, Heat Setting Foam, Heat Protection Serum and Finishing Shine Mist which is now available for purchase.

Both ladies look nice, as expected from these type of splash adverts, but I will be glad when Cassie eventually ditches this tired androgynous hairstyle. A lot of chicks have done the one-sided shaved head already and moved on from it.

Solange Knowles shows off those bold colours for ‘Rimmel London’…

Solange Knowles, the new face of Rimmel London, has unveiled the new promotional shoot for the cosmetics brand, and she looks stunning. The 25-year-old, who has been in the studio working on her new album, is certainly working the hell out of those bold colours!

Her number one beauty tip? “Be healthy, be happy, be beautiful, be whole-heartedly you!” she says. Check out more excerpts and photos below.

Q: Complete the sentence; London is…

“the first place I visited in Europe when I was 10. My life was changed. London is one of the most inspiring places in the world…A beautiful melting pot of cultures, styles, and backgrounds. I always feel alive in London, there’s always an adventure in London and some of the most unique and exciting people you will meet!”

Q: Now you are the face of Rimmel, how do you feel about so many women looking up to you as a role model?

“I am very careful of ever putting the role model tag on my shoulders. I am human and I am expected to have imperfections and make mistakes. However, if there are positive things I do that inspire or influence people I feel like my purpose as a person is that much more fulfilled. When I announced my role with Rimmel, I felt really proud to see such a positive response especially being that I represent someone of color, a single mom, an artist…and that I don’t have to compromise my views to do so!” Source.

Those Knowles are a working family brand, and she looks great!

New Song: Solange – ‘Left Side Drive’…

Solange Knowles has been working on the follow-up to ‘Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams’ for the past two years now. One of the tracks to surface in between those sessions is ‘Left Side Drive’. The cut was written two years ago which consists of the 24-year-old singing beautifully over a soothing electronic beat by Scottish duo Boards of Canada. Solange collaborated with them previously on ‘This Bird’ for her ‘Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams’ album. She declares herself a fan of their work and adds that she felt “honoured” to hook up with them musically.

One thing you can really say about Solange is that she has high regard for recording music of substance. She refuses to jump on trends and knows how to utilise the best qualities in her vocals. If she is waiting anxiously for her other half to commute right back, you can genuinely hear her frustration. The vocals are sensual and the lyrics are expressive. Since she has the right look and image, Solange could even market herself as the newest Afro-Hippie of neo-soul. There is definetely a market for it and she’s clearly passionate about that particular direction. The youngest Knowles sister has been busy recording her third studio album for quite some time now. If we don’t see a release this year I’m sure her work will find its way on the projects of other acts. Give the cut a listen below.

Solange Knowles & Cassie front ‘Carol’s Daughter’ ad campaign…

Alongside working on their new albums, Solange Knowles and Cassie have signed up to become the new faces of Carol’s Daughter. Also in partnership with the acclaimed hair and skin care line is model Selita Ebanks, putting forth a new, multiracial ad campaign. Read more over at my girl Necole Bitchie‘s site.

It’s not the first time Solange and Cassie fronted the same campaign. Both of them appeared in the OPen Campus ad campaign previously. Solange appeared in 2009 while Cassie signed on last year. Waiting for new music from Cassie this year will be like waiting for a Chris Brown and Jay-Z collaboration. It will never happen, so Cassie may as well use her looks for as long as she has them.

Solange performs in LA

Solange Knowles performed at Elle’s Annual Women in Music Concert in Hollywood last night. Never one to go with the grain, Solange’s style, as well as her attitude, is always a little off centre and quirky which I usually love but I’m not so sure about this 70’s inspired look. That said, she exudes so much confidence that she seems to pull anything off.

Big sister Beyonce isn’t the only one making new music this year, Solange has been working on the follow up to her critically acclaimed 2008 album, “Sol-Angel and the Hadley Street Dreams.” She took the opportunity to debut some new tracks last night in her first live show in two years. I hope we get something new from the rebellious Knowles child pretty soon because I’m still bumping her last album.

She was also joined on stage by Thepolius London.

Solange defends Beyonce over ‘Gadhafi’ controversy…

“My mother always taught us to give wholeheartedly and… quietly” says Solange Knowles, the younger sister of Beyonce “I appreciate that lesson”. She was defending the singer after her camp released a statement that she donated her fees from the Gadhafi family to charity. Beyonce echoed the same statement in her interview with ‘Self’ magazine last year. “I’ve always felt that you should give because it’s what you can do to help” she said.

“You don’t do it to get praised. For a long time, being quiet about what I did was a conscious decision. When you look around at all that’s wrong in the world, the need to do something, no matter how big or how small, is clear”. While she doesn’t want to brag about her work helping others, every time she mentions it, there’s always a chance she could inspire others or inspire a fan to donate. However, her intentions are very admirable.
