The most anticipated album of the year is now ready to be heard by anxious ears! In deed, the wait is over and Justin Timberlake gives fans an exclusive full-length listen of his new album ‘The 20/20 Experience’ on iTunes!
The 10-track project serves as JT’s first album in over six years and is preceded by the Jay-Z-assisted hit single ‘Suit & Tie’, as well as his UK #1 ‘Mirrors’. Both tracks were produced by his longterm collaborator Timbaland who did a bulk of the producing. The new album hits stores on March 18th over in the UK and March 19th over in the States. Does this live up to the hype? Was the wait worth it? Find out below!
The 20/20 Experience
1. Pusher Love Girl
2. Suit & Tie (ft. Jay-Z)
3. Don’t Hold the Wall
4. Strawberry Bubblegum
5. Tunnel Vision
6. Spaceship Coupe
7. That Girl
8. Let the Groove Get In
10. Blue Ocean Floor
The American Idol alum visited the WHUR radio studios yesterday in Washington, DC for an interview. She also played a new mellowed out R&B song, which goes by the title *drumroll* ‘If I Was A Bird’. Yes, although this was clearly unintended pun on her behalf, the jokes certainly do write themselves! I mean, c’mon. She’s like, the biggest piece of chicken you will ever come across. Take a listen to ‘If I Was A Bird’ below.
‘If I Was A Bird’ (#3 on the tracklist) will make a nice album cut ONLY. It’s not an attention grabber and neither does it represent the “rock-soul” influences that she’s been touting us with recently. The arrangement is very Brandy-ish, but that is never a bad thing coming from a mega Brandy fan! Subject matter of being free from heartbreak is becoming a little too cliche for her but the subdue vocals and light harmonies are simply beautiful. Fantasia’s new album is slated to hit stores on April 23rd!
If Ciara‘s breathy soprano and sick dance moves aren’t enough to propel her to the top, then maybe her fierce determination and drive will do the trick. Following the embarrassment of three flop singles, (‘Sweat’, ‘Sorry’, and ‘Got Me Good’) many have begun to lose faith in ‘One Woman Army’ and all of it’s offerings—still, that hasn’t deterred CiCi from continuously releasing new music.
Premiering just moments ago comes the Mike WiLL Made It prodcued ‘Body Party’, the latest track to be lifted from the upcoming LP. Although it sounds more like a “get together” than a party, listen to Ciara’s latest single after the jump to find out if she’s finally recorded the hit her career so desperately needs…
- Clever use of Ghost Town DJ‘s ‘My Boo’ sample
- Memorable melody
- Earnest vocals
- Sexy lyrics
- Sluggish production
- Ciara’s voice sounds very thin on the top
- Lacking a strong, “radio-friendly” hook
- Sounds like the less interesting cousin to all her other slow jams
Bottom Line 2.5/4
My main issue with Ciara is her delivery and expectations. She continues to release sub-par music that sounds exactly like tepid rehashes of her pervious singles hoping for different results. Sure, I understand what she was going for with “Body Party” and for the most part she achieved the lustful sensuality the song was meant to evoke, however, will that be enough to garner a comeback? Probably not.
While this song is good, it’s far from great, but hopefully it will give Ciara a few spins on urban radio and buy her enough time to release a crossover single that will catapult her back to the top of the charts. Until then, what did you think of ‘Body Party’?
From the snippet, Ciara is following in Kelly Rowland‘s footsteps – releasing a sex song! As much as folks complain, the reality is, sex sells. At least that is the outcome Ciara is hoping for. Ci is going the sensual R&B route and she appears to have given up trying to cross over. This is purely for her urban audience. Still, I would not be surprised if its pop counterpart springs up somewhere. Listen below!
The positive number, celebrating life regardless of negativity, samples elements from The Fugees‘ 1996 single ‘Fu-Gee-La’. A sample, originally lifted from Teena Marie‘s 1988 hit ‘Ooo La La La’. The beat is a vivid concoction of drum & bass, ragga and dance, and though not her strongest single to date, it’s good to see she’s still putting her own stamp on the music. Hopefully for the 20-year-old, it becomes another top 10 hit. The song hits iTunes on April 28th. Take a listen to it below.
The new Mariah Carey single ‘Almost Home’ leaked online today, one day ahead of its official release. The track is lifted off the soundtrack to Sam Raimi’s Wizard of Oz prequel ‘Oz The Great and Powerful’ hitting theaters next month. The upcoming music video is directed by David LaChapelle, so we certainly have something to look forward to.
The good news about the Stargate-produced ‘Almost Home’ is that it’s so much more radio friendly than last year’s ill-received single ‘Triumphant’. But that’s not really saying much because any song can easily sound better than that trash. Take a listen to the cut below.
Most Disney themes (and I’m a fan of many) are simple and lightweight so the production of repetitive drum machines may be a bit over-produced. MC’s vocals are a bit unrecognizable at first but at least her singing voice remains clear. ‘Almost Home’ is definitely a contemporary pop ballad made for Top40 radio. The song will make a nice album filler so luckily, this is just for a Disney soundtrack and nothing more.
Take a listen to a snippet of Mariah Carey‘s new single ‘Almost Home’. The Stargate-produced cut is lifted from the forthcoming Disney movie ‘Oz: The Great and Powerful’ and goes to radio on Feb 19th. A music video was shot earlier this week and sees famed photographer David LaChapelle in the director’s chair.
MC is currently working on a new album slated for release in the spring. If you can’t wait until Tuesday, you can stream a 28 seconds snippet of the feel-good number just to give you an inkling of what the contemporary pop ballad sounds like.

After their critically acclaimed ‘Climax’, Usher and Diplo team up once again for ‘Go Missin’, which they dropped last night on Valentines Day. The track is a combo of heavy bass production and electronic synths pulsing in the background.
Ush uses that stimulating falsetto, urging his female companion to make a saucy getaway. Of course doing so in the hope that he can have her all to himself for a night of seduction. It’s one of those songs that will need to get constant play on the radio until you learn to love it (if you don’t already). It’s nowhere near as good as ‘Climax’, and it does nothing for me personally, but check it out anyway.
Remember UK X Factor reject Gamu Nhengu from 2010 season? Former judge Cheryl Cole received major backlash and death threats when she chose not to take the Zimbabwe born singer through to the live shows. Today, she exclusively premiered her debut music video ‘Shake The Room’ with Mail Online.
The 21-year-old endorses retro soul of the 60?s era and combines it with contemporary R&B. The track serves as her first official single from her debut album ‘A Love Like This’ , which will be distributed via Scottish independent label GSound Records. This new track is so damn catchy with lots of feel-good sentiments. Welcome back!
Soul songbird Tweet is back and I couldn’t be happier! Ms Hummingbird is set to release her new EP ‘Simply Tweet’, which serves as her first musical offering since 2005. The four-track EP is prededed by the lead single ‘Enough’ which debuted earlier this month. If you have yet to listen to it, then you can check it out here. The new EP is slated to drop digitally on February 26th and serves as a real appertiser for when she is ready to put out a full-length studio album later this year.
As she readies the release, the previews to the EP have been distributed to Amazon, which you can check out, by clicking here. Enjoy!
The ultimate Valentine’s gift is from Tiffany Evans with her new EP ’143?. The ten-track compilation serves as a free download and it’s her first musical project since giving birth to her daughter Adalia Sarai last September. Popular producers/songwriters such as Elijah Blake and Mad Scientist also contributed to the project. This is pretty much an appetizer for when she is ready to release a full length studio album. Until then, check out her latest EP below.
Building on the momentum of his Grammys performance, Justin Timberlake releases a new cut called ‘Mirrors’, which was produced by his longtime collaborator Timbaland. The track will appear on his forthcoming new album ‘The 20/20 Experience’, which will arrive in stores on March 19th. So is this 8-minute track any good? Find out!
‘Mirrors’ is a nice song but it’s a typical Timbaland production. The pounding beat sounds like a mash-up between ‘Cry Me A River’ and ‘What Goes Around Comes Around’ making it totally unoriginal (and maybe a tad bit dated). Maybe that’s not a bad thing for vintage JT fans. After all, it’s certainly a lot better than ‘Suit & Tie’. Actually, all his new songs are better than ‘Suit & Tie’! I’m excited for his new album, and I’m especially excited that it’s going to be urban. I cannot wait for EDM domination to fade away.
Take a listen to ‘I.O.U’, the spanking new single from break-out R&B crooner Luke James. The lovelorn midtempo serves as quite the Valentines catch and consists of Luke’s velvety vocals over subtle piano riffs and a drum stomping beat. It will also appear on his debut album ‘Made To Love’ (due later this year). Luke has bagged himself a Grammy nod – ‘Best R&B Performance’ for his breakthrough hit ‘I Want You’. He faces stiff competition from the likes of Usher (‘Climax’) and Miguel (‘Adorn’), so his chances are a bit stiff at the moment but to be nominated alone is still amazing. He should be very proud of himself.

Take a listen to a snippet of Ciara‘s ‘Boy Outta Here’. The urban club banger features rapper Rick Ross and is slated to appear on Ciara’s upcoming new album ‘One Woman Army’. The track was co-produced by The Underdogs and King X. The song itself is dated, lacks infectiousness, and it’s just a very underwhelming effort from her. Check it out and sound off below.
R&B supergroup TGT (Tyrese, Ginuwine, Tank) have just debuted their sensual, new single, ‘Sex Never Felt Better’. The cut is lifted from their anticipated debut album, due later this year via Atlantic Records. The mid-tempo jam certainly oozes that baby making bedroom music we’ve grown accustomed to during their R&B 90s movement. Though, nothing we haven’t heard before from them (individually), it’s still a nice little groove. What do you think?
R&B made somewhat of a semi comeback last year, with oldschool acts SWV and Tamia dropping new albums. Jon B has a new record out too, and his fellow 90s R&B crooner Donell Jones is back on the scene as well.
‘Forever’ is a lusciously smooth R&B number applauding the ladies for holding their men down. Good to know those creamy vocals are still in tact. It truly is the perfect song to make love to. Take a listen to Donell’s first single and title track off his upcoming album, ‘Forever’, below. The new album is slated to drop in stores this May.
‘Love & Hip-Hip’ reality star Olivia pledges her love and devotion on a newly released cut called ‘I Do’! The track debuted last night courtesy of Hot 97?s Funkmaster Flex. Produced by Jerry Wonda, the singer enlists Bad Boy’s French Montana on the Rakim-sampled cut.
I totally love that she used an oldschool Hip Hop sample, and the overall beat is quite the banger! iPod worthy? Absolutely! The 31-year-old has been pretty quiet ever since she signed to Wonda Music in April last year. And, not to get anyone’s hopes up but this could be a sign of things to come from her new album ‘Show The World’, due later this year.
Tweet unleashes ‘Enough’, the first single off her upcoming EP ‘Simply Tweet’. The soulful ballad consists of Tweet giving us a sleek, yet sultry vocal over a moody production. The R&B songstress is singing about putting behind a bad relationship and moving forward.
This is a really nice cut from Tweet. Fans will appreciate it simply because she is staying true to her sound. The 42-year-old is also gearing up to release her EP on February 26th, and a full studio album is set to follow later this year. Welcome back Ms Hummingbird!
Valentines Day is not too far away, and Chrisette Michele is basking in it on ‘A Couple of Forevers’! The heartfelt number serves as the first single from her upcoming new album ‘Better’, which will drop in stores on April 20th! Produced by Pop & Oak and written by Tiwa Savage and Wansel, the track will see a digital release on February 5th and impact radio on February 11th.
Clearly, this was not made for cross-over radio but it could do well on Urban/Adult Contemporary formats. For the soulful ballad about everlasting love, Chrisette samples the classic ‘Stairway to Heaven’ by the O’Jays! The vocals are breathtaking and the high notes levitate the soul!
Alicia Keys samples Crystal Waters 1991 hit ‘Gypsy Woman’ for a brand new remix of her latest single, ‘Brand New Me’. The singer says she was so overwhelmed by the love she received on her birthday that she HAD to release this special version. Yesterday, she turned 32-years-old!
The retro-popping number was certainly a fresh new take on the Crystal Waters sample. With the chopped and screwed part, AK really did try something different that was completely out of her comfort zone. It could even be a radio hit with the right push. Take a listen to it below!
