Amerie to revisit ‘Because I Love It’ on next album…

R&B songstress Amerie participated in a brand new interview with a U.K radio station yesterday. The 30-year-old, who recently got engaged to her manager boyfriend Lenny Nicholson, says that she is already looking at the direction she wants to go on her next album. The sounds used for the singer’s shelved US album ‘Because I Love It’ (2007) is what she would like to go for on the next project as well as a possible reunion with her ditched longterm collaborator Rich Harrison. Amerie’s latest album ‘In Love & War’ is expected to hit UK shores this coming summer and she is looking to release ‘Higher’ as a potential single. Check out the whole interview by clicking here.

‘Because I Love It’ was remarkably consistent and had many elements of ’70s soul, ’80s New Wave, Hip Hop, R&B and live instrumentation. Even today, that album has not left my ipod so I totally welcome it (her debut will always be my favourite). I also think it’s good she has not entirely given up on the project despite its dismal album sales. Maybe it would do better on the European market ala a Kelly Rowland type situation. Maybe this is where she needs to channel most of her musical energies. Thoughts?

  1. fire her manager! never mix business w/ pleasure (janet & jermaine, xtina milian & dre) & hook back up w/ rich harrison. amerie + rich = magic

get a manager like benny medina…someone who is going to get u major exposure/tv time.

im a huge amerie fan btw

  2. Ahh any music by Amerie would be quality so whatever she does I’ll be looking forward to it.
Disappointing she hasn’t found much success in the US though.

  3. Bring the Rich back right now!!!

  4. She needs to revisit All I Have. I’ve found everything she made after disposable, its the only album/music i listen to of hers now. Her vocals also went down hill after. I think too much time was spent on image/sex appeal.

I think Because I Love It is her worst album to date.

  5. Toya, In love and war is already out in the UK. I bought it months ago on itunes.

  6. Its Out In The U.K But It’s Not ‘Officially’ Out Since She Didnt Drop A 1st Single Over Here.
‘Heard Em All’ Is The 1st Single Accompanied With A Dance Mix.
She’s Out Here In April & The Album Comes Out In June.
& ‘Higher’ Def Needs To Be A Single

  7. Because I love it was a mixture of all I have and touch with some funk and hip hop and it was received as a citical acclaim album. It was a perfect all rounded album which I think in love & war wasn’t but was still good nonetheless!and she gives us quality music so I’m down for any new music from Amerie.

  8. I’ve never felt so badly for a song not being a single as I do for “Crush”. That song was, is and will always be THE one. Song was perfect and could have been a SMASH. It’s just a great song with such a familiar sound to it.

As for ‘In love & war’, I don’t think much can save it. But she should have dropped “Higher” from day 1, because that right there is a hit single.

  9. Lets hope we get some bonus tracks from the re-release…. Amerie promised 2 songs called Love & War and Breakups to Makeups that wasn’t there.

I’ll worry about the next album after we are done with the current one.

  10. She needs new management and a more current sound.

She can dance (1 Thing, Touch, Take Control, Gotta Work)
She can sing (Paint Me over, Crazy wonderful, Nothing like loving you, Can we go)
She has a sweet down to earth personality
    She is a beautiful woman
She can write, arrange and co-produce material.

She needs a TEAM…a GOOD TEAM behind her. What about that does she not see nor understand. Today music is just a small percent of what is needed unfortunately….but as long as she has her same lame management that she will continue to fail. It’s the truth…especially making the music that she wants unless she plans on jumping on bandwagons like everyone else.

Amerie needs to get it together…shocked she lasted this long.

  11. I really like amerie as an artist and female but for some reason I can’t get with her music!* I loved her 1st single 4rm her 1st album and I love one thing and the remix with eve but this new stuff out now I just can’t vibe with it and its crazy cuz her talent is there and I have a special respect for her cuzz of her love and erespect to my girl aaliyah soooo I wish her the best and I hope n pray that she gets the acknowledgement and respect from the industry that she deserves cuz like I said the talent is there!!*xoxoxo

  12. I bizarrely came across this interview on the radio last night (my dab is LOCKED to that station, nothing but good music!)

    really good interview.

  13. forgot to add, I just need her to get a really good team behind her – basically what everyone else has said.

  14. I agree 100% about Amerie needing a new team behind her. But this is just one of many cases in the music game: an artist who can go the distance and be big, but signed to labels and management who don’t always make the best decisions.

I’ve been thinking for a while that Amerie should try getting some spots in Korea. It’d be a cool change of pace for her over there if she wanted a break from the US. And I think if she picked up on her Korean, she could be popular over there. A couple of big Korea acts have already hopped on a couple of her songs.
