The certification difference between Britney & Chris Brown…
Posted by Toya | Filed under Britney Spears, Chris Brown

Chris Brown fans were seething in regards to Britney Spears recieving her platinum certification for latest album ‘Femme Fatale’ this week. Spears recieved the prestigious certification from the Recording Industry Association of America because one million copies of the LP was shipped out. However, her numbers do not reflect the certification. Not even close. The 29-year-old has yet to reach Gold and a further 60K will need to be shifted to hit the 500K mark.
Her label mate Chris Brown has yet to reach 500K either but at 485K, he is very close. In fact, the 21-year-old has shifted more copies than his label mate. The singer recieved his Gold certiciation for latest album ‘F.A.M.E.’ last week and there’s not much to dispute. The certification matches his numbers and next month, ‘F.A.M.E.’ will undoutedly surpass the 500K mark.

Usually, when an artist recieves a certification for Gold or Platinum, it is in the belief that they will eventually get there if they have yet to do so. It does not necessarily mean they sold that number. This is where a lot of people seem to get their wires crossed. These certifications work in funny ways. Grrr…

“Rihanna, one of the first mega stars in US to pick up on dubstep”…
Posted by Toya | Filed under Britney Spears, Rihanna

London production duo Chase & Status has heaped high appraisal on Rihanna for her part in establishing the dubstep craze in America. Will Kennard and Saul Milton used dubstep when they worked with the pop minx on her ‘Rated R’ album back in 2009. The underrated duo feel that Rihanna’s star power and success is what made the British dance sound uber popular in the US.
The sound has become so popular, it was once again picked up by Britney Spears for her ‘Femme Fatale’ album this year. With dubstep becoming the new trend in music, more commercial acts will likely explore it. In fact, it has already started with the duo turning down a barrage of requests from American stars. This was so that that they could focus on their own album ‘No More Idols’, which reached number two in the UK album chart.
“I think it helped. Rihanna was one of the first mega-stars in America to pick up on dubstep. Full credit to her for getting in touch with us. We did a whole load of stuff with her that didn’t get used for her album.”
- Status.
“I’m still baffled why everyone goes on about the Britney Spears thing because about 15 seconds of the song is dubstep, and the rest of it sounds like a trance record to me. I’ve got no qualms with mainstream people using dubstep. I think it’s a natural progression, really. Americans love dubstep. It’s hot sh*t right now. The kids want it” Source.
- Chase.
In Britney’s defence, her dabbling of dubstep did not start at ‘Femme Fatale’. She experimented with the sound back in 2007 for her criminally underrated ‘Blackout’ album. Dubstep influences could be heard in her song ‘Freakshow’, one of the most contagious tracks to plague the project. With dubstep gaining further worldwide recognition, a massive invasion is set to occur in the months to come. But are YOU ready for it?

Beyonce always has a replacement single lined up just in case the first one doesn’t take off. Rumour has it that her label will promote a second single titled ‘Till The End Of Time’. Many of you may have heard the snippet on youtube right before the ‘Girls’ track leaked in full a few weeks ago.
Beyonce was not kidding when she said her album will be experimenting with lots of live instrumentation. Judging by this track and ‘Girls’, it sounds like we are about to get the close cousin of ‘B’day’. Check out the snippet below.

Mariah Carey, 42, and Nick Cannon, 30, became parents today, welcoming into the world a beautiful and healthy set of twins! Arriving in their Rolls-Royce, the Diva gave birth Saturday morning at an undisclosed hospital in Los Angeles, as confirmed by her long time representative, Cindi Berger. The baby girl arrived first, weighing 5 pounds, 3 ounces, and was 18 inches tall. The baby boy came next, weighing 5 pounds, 6 ounces, and was 19 inches tall. Berger went on to say Mariah was remarkably calm throughout the delivery while Nick was a nervous wreck. Mariah asked for ‘We Belong Together’ to be played in the background after the “dem babies” were born. Only Mimi…
Congratulations are certainly in order for the doting couple; not only for being blessed with two healthy new babies, but their three year marriage anniversary is today! What a truly joyous day for the Cannons (and Lambs) it has turned out to be.

Adele performs ‘Set Fire To The Rain’ on ‘Graham Norton’…

Adele performed her new single ‘Set Fire To The Rain’ this week on ‘The Graham Norton Show’. The track, which was co-written by herself and Fraser T. Smith is quite distinctive compared to her previous singles because it includes some rock sounds.
Still, the heartfelt lyrics and emotion is not lost and she delivered an astonishing live performance of the track. The cut is lifted from her phenomenally successful new album ‘21?, which to date has sold a total of 4.64 million copies making it the bestselling album of the year with Rihanna‘s ‘Loud’ in second place. Massive congrats!

New Video: Jagged Edge – ‘My Baby’…
Posted by Toya | Filed under Jagged Edge, New Music Video

R&B veteran group Jagged Edge has premiered the official music visual for their Cainon Lamb produced new single ‘My Baby’. The throwback quartet kept the Yolande Geralds directed video very simplistic, with many of the scenes featuring a mic, a black backdrop and some frolicking shots involving a love interest. Nothing that’d tear your attention too far away from any bingo games already in progress. Besides all that, the video was nothing amazing and they could definetely have come harder with the first single.
‘My Baby’ which samples ‘Only You Can Make Me Happy’ by 80s R&B group Surface, serves as the lead single from their forthcoming album ‘The Remedy’. The upcoming opus is scheduled to drop in stores on June 21st. Until the release date finally arrives, check out their newly premiered video below.
Teairra Mari performs new single ‘Thats All Me’ at ‘R&B Live’…
Posted by Toya | Filed under Teairra Mari

Teairra Mari took to the stage this week at the R&B Live showcase (April 27th). The gig took place at the Cotton Club in Ventura Blvd, Los Angeles, which saw the 23-year-old perform several cuts from her latest mixtape ‘The Night Before X-Mas’. Her set included an impromptu performance of her new record, the Rico Love produced ‘That’s All Me’ which she recorded earlier this year. The track samples Diddy‘s 1998 hit ‘It’s All About the Benjamins’.
Mari’s career is pretty much touch and go at the moment. The release of her painfully delayed album ‘At That Point’ has been penciled for the summer, but recently, she announced yet another mixtape titled ‘Now or Never’. Mari has now seemingly settled for becoming nothing more than just a mixtape artist endorsed by the ghetto-fabulous World Star Hip Hop. Check out her brief performance below.
Britney’s ‘Femme Fatale’ officially certified Platinum…
Posted by Toya | Filed under Britney Spears

Britney Spears is no longer wowing us with her performances and selling units quickly has become a thing of the past. Remember when she use to sell 500K in her first week? Well today, it has been confirmed that her seventh studio album ‘Femme Fatale’ is officially certified platinum by the RIAA, exactly one month after its release. The thing is, the album has yet to reach 500k but shipped over a million so they certified it anyway. The LP has spawned two hits so far – her number one global smash ‘Hold It Against Me’ and her top five hit ‘Till The World Ends’.
Femme Fatale has made Spears become the only woman to have six albums debut at number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart. She also joins Mariah Carey being the only artist to debut at number on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with more than one song. The 29-year-old has kept her promo quite minimal compared to Lady Gaga and for the last few years (post-breakdown) she has noticeably avoided performing at large award ceremonies. Another single and further promo could help further sales of the LP, but fter her tour, she’ll most likely disappear for a bit as can be expected from the reclusive star.
Lady Gaga’s label promotes Major Lazer through Beyonce…
Posted by Toya | Filed under Beyonce, Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga‘s record label Interscope paid for a Twitter ad this week. Whenever a Twitter user tapped in the word ‘Beyonce‘ into the search browser, they were taken to Interscope’s ad. The ad, which directly links to Beyonce’s inactive twitter account, asks: “Like Beyonce’s new song? Listen to the original song she samples”. The ad, posts an iTunes link directing users to the Major Lazer song ‘Pon De Floor’, which Beyonce samples for her latest single ‘Run the World (Girls)’.
As it goes Major Lazer’s album was released in conjunction with Interscope. What’s even more fascinating is that Beyonce is debuting at the same time as their number one artist Lady Gaga and her song isn’t doing so well at the moment. This in turn definetely puts an interesting spin on things.

Other reports suggest Beyonce and Gaga had a falling out although they were pictured earlier this year at the Grammy Awards.
Another new Beyonce promo shot surfaces, but is it REALLY her?
Posted by Toya | Filed under Beyonce

Whoever photoshopped this latest new promo photo of Beyonce did an overfried, skin bleaching, bang up of a job. The photo was unearthed by Entertainment Weekly and the 29-year-old looks dangerously unrecognisable. In fact, she looks so drastically different, her stans are iffing and butting whether or not it is her. I’ve never been a fan of the fried blonde and feel that sandy brown hues suit her much better.
In related news, her former bandmate Kelly Rowland has passed Beyonce on iTunes. Both chicks released their urban singles recently but it is Rowland’s ‘Motivation’ winning the forte over Beyonce’s ‘Run the World (Girls)’. Rowland is placed at #41, while Beyonce is placed at #43. Who in a million years thought they’d EVER see the day?
Bruno Mars performs ‘The Lazy Song’ on Idol…
Posted by Toya | Filed under Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars brought along his living room set to American Idol last night, except, he wasn’t actually there. Despite the performance being pre-taped a month ago on March 31st, he sure did make up for his lack of Idol presence. There were dogs, sofas and a 17-man live band that had more swag than you could recall. The critically acclaimed musician showed off his catchy style of shades and trademark fedora hat while performing his ska-tinged new single ‘The Lazy Song’ from his platinum-certified debut album ‘Doo Wops & Hooligans’.
Mars delivered what you could call a warm, funky and fun rendition of the song with the horns, bongos and his consistently butter-smooth flow. The track is not as radio friendly as previous singles and it falls short of being a typical easy reggae song derived from the eighties. However, he sold himself with the performance making that particular track just that much more likable. ‘The Lazy Song’ is currently #3 in the UK midweeks. Could the chart king be looking at his third UK number one?
New Music: Ester Dean – ‘Give Me A Reason’…
Posted by Dimp | Filed under Ester Dean, New Music

Fresh music coming from Ester Dean. Still no word on if she is actually putting out an album or anything. Remember she is a song writer and has written hits for a lot of your favz. Most songs that leak from her are demos and I’m almost sure that this one is just that. It’s called “Give Me A Reason“. It’s a pop ballad produced by Toby Gad (Beyoncé’s “If I Were A Boy” & Fergie’s “Big Girls Don’t Cry“). Take a listen to it after the jump.
I would really love to know who this song is going to be for! Because I just love it. If Ester sounds good singing it, I can only image a power house diva OWNING this song. Like Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, Melonie Fiona, Fantasia or maybe even Rihanna…Yes I said Rihanna. Her vocals have improved a tad bit to nail a song of this nature. I hope it gets into their hands, either that or Ester needs to leak a mastered version of this because it’s obviously an un-mastered demo. But I love it regardless. Your thoughts?
Chris Brown & Justin Bieber perform together in Australia…
Posted by Toya | Filed under Chris Brown, Justin Bieber

R&B-pop heart throbs Chris Brown and Justin Bieber are both touring Australia at the same time! Bieber is in Australia because he is currently on his ‘My World’ tour. Breezy is in Australia because he is currently on his ‘F.A.M.E.’ tour. It just wouldn’t make sense for these two close buddies to be touring the same country at the same time without gate-crashing each other’s show.
That’s exactly what Breezy did. After Bieber performed Breezy’s hit single ‘With You’, the 21-year-old suddenly came out. They then performed Breezy’s ‘Look At Me Now’. Between them, they took it in turns to cover Busta Rhymes‘ verse while doing a joint dougie! The girls went wild! Check out the action below!
Beyoncé Slapped With $100 Million Lawsuit…
Posted by Dimp | Filed under Beyonce

Beyoncé has been slapped with a $100 million lawsuit! She is being accused of breaching a contract after reportedly bailing out of the creation of a motion censored dance video game called “Starpower: Beyoncé“. Get into the details below.
Beyoncé has been hit with a hefty $100 million lawsuit, after the singer reportedly bailed out on creating a “motion-sensing dance video” titled “Starpower: Beyoncé.”
The summons, which was first obtained by New York Magazine, was filed yesterday (Apr. 26) by software developer Gate Five LLC against Beyoncé and her company, Beyoncé, Inc.
Gate Five is holding the star, who is referred to as Ms. Carter, accountable for “a bad faith breach of contract so callous that, on what appeared to be a whim, she destroyed Gate Five’s business and drove 70 people into unemployment, the week before Christmas.”
According to the claim, Beyoncé “had already negotiated lavish compensation terms” with Gate Five to develop the “Starpower: Beyoncé” video game, but then suddenly “made an extortionate demand for entirely new compensation terms.” When the deal subsequently fell through, the singer allegedly “drove away the financier (who found Ms. Carter too erratic to do business with) and then pulled out of the project, breaching the agreement.
Representatives for Beyonce have yet to repspond to requests for a comment.
This isn’t a good way to kick off the era of a new album. I wonder what she has to say for herself? I wonder if those statements are true? Whatever the case, they waited until it was time for her to release a new album to bring all this drama up to the table. But she has a good set of lawyers. $100 Million is a LOT of money. That is A LOT OF DAYUM MONEY! Too much if you asked me. Granted, had the video game been created, it probably would have grossed MORE than the $100 Million that they are asking for. So, I can see where they’re coming from. Beyoncé, we gotta get it together.

Watch: Lady Gaga performs ‘Judas’ on Ellen…
Posted by Toya | Filed under Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga gave an exclusive, world premiere performance of her hit song, ‘Judas’ today on The Ellen Degeneres Show. The performance was very underwhelming. Gaga’s blue latex outfit may have been reminiscent to Britney Spears 2001, but sadly, she was dancing like Britney circa 2011. The only thing this performance did was expose her lacking abilities as a fluid dancer. In fact, I will say it cloud and clear. Lady Gaga can NOT dance to save her life. She needs to take some lessons from Shakira or just don’t bother!
The partial playback was likely used to ease the pressure of her horrible live vocals. She was moving around quite a lot and even started swinging around her stringy extensions. Unfortunately, she did not sound so great and towards the end, she became really breathy. The pop titan later sat down for an interview while chatting to Ellen about her struggles with fame and identity. Of course her comedienne nature came out alongside the seriousness and she had the audience cracking up with laughter.
Watch the interview here.
