Watch: Rihanna kicks off Australian tour…

Over the weekend, Rihanna kicked off her ‘Last Girl On Earth’ Australian tour in Brisbane. The singer also debuted some never before seen outfits which you can check out after the jump. Shining beams, a lively rock band, and flickering stage screens were some of the fascinations that plagued the Entertainment Centre.

Some people question Rihanna’s ability as a performer. Sure, we get it. She’s no Janet Jackson but she kind of makes up for it with her amazing sets, live singing and sexy outfits. Obviously, people enjoy what she has to offer because at present, she has multiple sold out concerts. Being an artist in demand meant that she had to extend additional shows to her European ‘Loud’ tour. The set list included fan favourites such as ‘Umbrella’, ‘Rude Boy’, ‘S&M’, ‘What’s My Name’, ‘Take A Bow’ and much more. Proceed for photos and video footage.

Watch: Lady Gaga ‘Born This Way’ (visual)…

Pop heavyweight Lady Gaga premiered the highly anticipated music video for her global smash ‘Born This Way’ today. The philosophical science fiction visual was directed by Nick Knight and choreographed by Laurie Ann Gibson. The video, which looked like it took some of its themes from ‘Superman’ and ‘Star Wars’ sees Gaga attempting to push artistic boundaries yet again.

Unfortunately, some of the concept may have got lost with the heavy use of symbolic imagery. As a precautionary warning, you might want to hold off eating dinner if you’re very squirmish. Watching the birth of slimy heads is as weird and gross as it’s going to get with Gaga. The singer then puts much emphasis on a new race meeting its beginning before dancing around in not much but her underwear and rocking skeletal make-up.

Although the visual was somewhat twisted, you couldn’t help but take your eyes off the screen. The cinematography was pretty insane but personally, I feel she has peaked with ‘Bad Romance’ when it comes to highly engaging music videos. The ending does however deserve some props because she paid homage to both the Queen and King of Pop! Peep Michael‘s gloves and Madonna‘s tooth gap and much more after the jump!

“This is the manifesto of Mother Monster. On Goat, a government-owned alien territory in space, a birth of magnificent and magical proportions took place. But the birth was not finite. It was infinite. As the womb slumbered and the mitosis of the future began, it was perceived that this infamous moment in life is not temporal, it is eternal. And thus began the beginning of the new race, a race within the race of humanity. A race which bears no prejudice, no judgement, but boundless freedom.

But on that same day as the eternal mother hovered in the multiverse another more terrifying birth took place: the birth of evil. And as she herself split into two, rotating in agony between two ultimate forces, the pendulum of choice began its dance. It seems easy you imagine togravitate instantly and unwaveringly towards good. But she wondered, ‘How can I protect something so perfect without evil?’”

Lady Gaga to perform on American Idol Finale…

Lady Gaga is reportedly set to perform on the finale of American Idol. Her BFF Perez Hilton reports that “this is the earliest they’ve booked a performer in the show’s history”. It is believed she will perform her second single ‘Judas’.

The finale is set to take place on May 19th, four days before the release of her hotly anticipated new album ‘Born This Way’. Show bosses were obviously eager to snap up the seemingly eccentric star because she is the type of pop star they’d like to sign from the series. No pressure there then!

Justin Timberlake to go back into the studio this summer…

When Jessie J let the cat out of the bag that she wrote nine songs with Justin Timberlake, nobody knew what to think. Timberlake has been so jittery whenever a journalist would confront him for banishing his music roots. At times he’d get a little defensive, or hide behind a flourishing acting career.

In fact, many fans would soon accept him as just a ‘cameo’ type of artist which would see him feature on other people’s records only. That said, the ‘peep your head through the door’ approach to music looks set to cease. Our reaction? Finally!

“I think I may spend some time in the studio this summer,” he tells E Online during his stint on the Oscars red carpet “I’m unemployed right now. I haven’t been hired for anything so I may hire myself to write some music…It’s right around the corner”. Source.

It could still be a while yet before we hear new music from the just turned 30-year-old. The fact that he is now showing an interest to return is a breakthrough in itself. Many of us will be waiting, no matter how long it takes.

New Song: Willow Smith – ’21st Century Girl’…

Willow Smith‘s ’21st Century Girl’, the follow-up to her smash hit ‘Whip My Hair’ debuted on radio today. The track is an uptempo dance-pop number soaked with spacey synths and rebellious lyrical content. Maybe it’s a little too mature for a child who still has a few years to go before hitting those dreaded teens.

How many 10-year-olds can actually say they can run riot without being restricted? I know that if anyone in my family tried to lay down the law at 10, we’d get a slap in the mouth. ’21st Century Girl’ has all the elements for radio to jump all over it. Plus, having that Hollywood-savvy last name branded by her parents, also works in her favour. However, ’21st Century Girl’ really lacks the fun age-appropriate value that made ‘Whip My Hair’ suitable for her generation. Give the track a listen below.

Adele retains top spots on the UK charts…

The unstoppable Adele has held onto her historic UK chart double last night with her single and album staying at number one. The emotionally charged ballad ‘Someone Like You’ soared to the top spot last week in the wake of Adele’s acclaimed Brit Awards performance.

On Sunday she retained the number one slot in the albums chart for a fifth week with her second album, ’21?. The singer-songwriter last week became the first living artist to achieve the feat of two top five hits in both the Official Singles Chart and the Official Albums Chart simultaneously. The last act to achieve this was The Beatles. Once again, Adele never ceases to amaze us!

New Song: Britney Spears – ‘The Big Fat Bass’ (snippet)…

Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.i.am has worked with Britney Spears on her upcoming new album ‘Femme Fatale’ (out on March 29th). The producer promised anticipated fans on twitter this weekend that he’d do whatever he could to deliver a snippet of the track which is titled ‘The Big Fat Bass’. The underwhelming track title is an uptempo electropop club cut, set to shake up the dancefloor. “The bass is an important element to club dance music. This song celebrates bass” he said about the song’s concept.

Will.i.am’s autotuned vocals are really messy and the song reaks of Black Eyed Peas. This could easily have been a Fergie track. The song starts off with a riveting piano before Britney takes over. The production then catapults into one massive high treble beat. At least the other snippets had Britney’s touch as she made sure to revisit the sounds from her previous back catalogue. Give the snippet a listen below.

Magazine scoop: Britney Spears & Rihanna…

Two of your favourite pop starlets will be gracing the glossy pages when they unveil brand new photoshoots in the coming weeks. Britney Spears will also be covering the March issue of V magazine. Derek Blasbery, the senior editor for V confirmed the news by revealing: “The cat is out of the bag! Britney Spears’s top secret photo shoot with Mario Testino was ours! V magazine’s March issue is going to be EPIC”. I’m sure it will be, although the odd twitter interaction, several leaked snippets and a magazine photoshoot still does not qualify as real promo.

Although this was reported a few weeks ago, Rihanna confirmed her photoshoot with Annie Leibovitz for the american Vogue this weekend. The prestigious photoshoot will be featured in April’s issue, whilst the magazine itself should be out in mid March according to the singer.

Kelly Rowland & Nelly share close bond on ‘Gone’ video set…

Kelly Rowland and her ‘Dilemma’ collaborator Nelly enjoy a stint of intimacy on the set of their beach located music video for ‘Gone’. Nelly’s muscular hand grips the super svelte songstress as she grabs onto his toned shoulders, lays back and allows him to affectionately entice her. The Marc Klasfeld directed clip, which was shot in Mexico a few weeks ago, will premiere March 7th at 10pm on VH1.

Cee Lo Green let it all hang out!

Isn’t this the sexiest thing you’ve ever seen ladies? Cee Lo Green let his jiggly beer gut hang loose during his performance at the NME Big Gig at Wembley Arena this weekend (February 25th). The star performed some of his hits including ‘Smiley Faces’, ‘Crazy’ and ‘F*ck You’.

If this act of excessive exposure is a frequent gig segment, Rihanna fans are in for a tasty treat when the Gnarls Barkley singer supports the fiesty red haired vixen on her US ‘Loud’ tour this coming summer.

Cheryl Cole covers German ‘Cosmopolitan’…

A radiant Cheryl Cole covers the March issue of German’s Cosmopolitan. The 27-year-old has announced earlier that she cannot wait to start work on album number three. She will also reportedly work with vocal coach Bob Corff to ensure American audiences can understand her words. Such reports has further fuelled rumours that she has landed herself a judging spot on the US X Factor. An official announcement is expected to be made in the coming weeks.

Lady Gaga unveils new look…

It seems Chris Brown is not the only one taking to twitter today to unleash a dyed new look. Lady Gaga has also posted a new photo of herself along with the following message: “Dyed my bangs black. It’s my new monsterlook. Let the mitosis of the future begin. Off to meet Judas”. Gaga and her weird ultra short bangs could very well start a trend this Spring and hopefully, it’s one that becomes a passing phase.

Meanwhile, the RedOne produced ‘Judas’ is the confirmed second single from Gaga’s forthcoming album ‘Born This Way’ (out on May 23rd). Gaga’s new music video for lead single ‘Born This Way’ premieres tomorrow. There will be two alternative versions of the Nick Knight directed clip. The second clip will consist of a more stripped-down performance of the single and will be released to itunes at a later date. Proceeds will go towards an anti-bullying charity.

Gasp! Chris Brown unveils blonde new look!

Look at him now! R&B star Chris Brown has decided he wants to become the new Sisqo. The 21-year-old unveiled his newly platinum blonde hair on twitter today. Regardless of whether you love it or hate it, the look is certainly bold, daring and different. New look for a new album era. ‘F.A.M.E.’ drops in stores on March 22nd.

Nick Cannon rules out collaboration with Mariah Carey…

Mariah Carey‘s husband Nick Cannon says there’s no hope in hell that the two will collaborate on a track one day. This admission is something worth toasting in itself. Cannon is a very corny artist and it would not do much for Mariah’s credibility as a now cemented legend.

“I am not worthy of being in the recording studio with Mariah Carey. I make silly songs. I make little fun, you know, club music to try to make people laugh. She’s Mariah Carey. We’ve been in (the studio), but it wouldn’t even make sense. It would be like Weird Al Yankovic and Barbra Streisand doing a song” he says.

In more exciting news, Mariah announced this week that her new album is now a work in progress. “I start writing for my new album this week – but it’s just the beginning”. she tweeted. She has also just recorded a charity record titled ‘Save The Day’, which is helmed by her longterm producer friend Jermaine Dupri.

Kelly Rowland announces new single ‘Motivation’…

Kelly Rowland has announced that the first single from her third studio album will be the Lil Wayne assisted ‘Motivation’. During her appearance at the Roberto Cavalli show this weekend, Rowland said she was searching for looks for her new video.

“I start shooting in L.A. in a week. I’m aiming for a very sexy, feminine video and I’m looking for womanly, sexy designs,” said Rowland. She went on to say that ‘Motivation’ would be “a mix of dance and mash-up”. Will ‘Motivation’ be the single needed for her album to see a release? Only time will tell.

Britney Spears finally speaks!

It’s bad enough that Britney Spears has lost her ability to deliver a hot performance these days. But when she can’t even put out a decent announcement to promote said performance, maybe she really needs to hang up those overloaded boots. The 29-year-old pop startlet sounded like she smoked her way through 50 cigarettes when she announced that she’d be performing a concert series on ‘Good Morning America’ on March 29th (the very day her album ‘Femme Fatale’ drops).

The secluded singer could not make it more transparent that she was reading from a telepromper and her enthusiasm was just as lively as my reaction when The Prophet tells me to listen to a Heidi Montag record. Not there, unfortunately. Britney’s promo has been non-existent this era. If anything, she has distanced herself much deeper than her ‘Circus’ reign. Check out her weird announcement below.

’21st Century Girl’ will recieve its first play tomorrow at 10:30am courtesy of ‘On-Air with Ryan Seacrest’ before it hits itunes on Tuesday. On the same day, she will perform the track on Oprah, and we’re sure it will be absolutely swagger packed!

Rihanna & Ciara exchange war of words on twitter…

Last night on twitter, Pop starlets Rihanna and Ciara found themselves locked in a petty twitter beef after exchanging a few war of words. It began when Ciara went on E!’s Fashion Police with Joan Rivers. On the show, she publicly revealed that she encountered an unpleasant experience with the Barbadian at a party.

Upset at Ciara airing her out so publicly, Rihanna took to twitter and tweeted: “My bad Ci, did I forget to tip you?” Ciara replied: “Trust me Rhianna, you don’t want to see me on or off the stage” Rihanna smugly retorted “Good luck with booking that stage you speak of” (1, 2) before offering a sarcastic apology. Ciara relented.

Rihanna’s nine number ones and sold-out gigs all over the world is a very amazing feat, and one that she should be very proud of. Is it right to look down on a lesser unfortunate artist because they have not encountered half of your success? No it isn’t. As a result, it should be known that the music industry chews you up and spits you out. They love you when you’re on top and you have something to give. But when your records stop selling and the next pretty or younger singer arrives to dominate the scene, many of those artists find themselves fighting to stay relevant.

They will start to reminisce the earlier days when fighting for their place was not even an issue. Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Janet Jackson and Jennifer Lopez have all encountered that dark path of the music industry. So therefore, it’s not a good look to trash an artist for their failures when two years later, you could be singing a different tune.

Ciara’s career may be on life support right now, but she has a lot to offer. She is still in her mid 20s and can easily make a successful comeback. Jennifer Lopez is a great example. She is currently enjoying amazing global success with her new single ‘On The Floor’. Furthermore, she has shown us that a successful comeback after fallen times is not impossible (I DID predict J.Lo would encounter success this year). Mariah Carey came back strong with her ‘Emancipation’ LP after so many wrote her off for past failures.

The point is, there is still hope for both Ciara (as well as Christina). They just need a better direction. The twitter beef was really petty and they could have resolved this quietly without a massive audience. Neither artist should be blamed more than the other because both were at fault with the way they dealt with the situation. Hopefully, they can learn to put this behind them and continue to give us some kick-ass hot club bangers that we can dance our butts off to and still deliver those hits in the process! “Sticks and stones may break my bones!”
