Jazmine Sullivan announces break from music…

R&B songstress Jazmine Sullivan has shockingly announced on Twitter that she will be taking a break from music as she needs to “figure out” who she is without a mic, paper or pen. The shock announcement has also fuelled online speculation that the 23-year-old Grammy nominated singer is likely going through some sort of label dispute. These things are not exactly cut and dry. Considering that she’s just released her new album ‘Love Me Back’, the timing could not look any more sketchy.

Before thanking the fans for their support, she wrote: “I promised myself when it wasn’t fun anymore I wouldn’t do it. And here I am. I’m not saying I won’t ever sing again in my life because I don’t believe that. But in this moment right now, I got some things to figure out”. The announcement is really odd and hopefully in time, we get to find out the REAL reason why such an extremely talented vocalist has put her career on hold.

Perhaps it was because her album flopped and it was subpar.

Her album may of flopped but it was FAR from subpar.

And maybe it’s because she really needs to find herself.

Her album is far from sub-par DC_1. These things don’t gain critical acclaim for no reason.

I’m shocked. Based on her debut numbers it wasn’t a flop if I do remember correctly.

So sad! She one of the most talented R&B chick out right now.

You don’t need talent any-more to get a record deal all you have to do is fuck for tracks, sing some electronic dance trash & look pretty.

Some may disagree but I happen to agree with DC_1. I bought the album the day it came out to support her but I only like 3 tracks. I haven’t listened to it since.
I think the low album sales could have a LOT to do with it. I hope Chrisette Michelle doesn’t follow suit. Their sales were right behind each other.

I guess everyone does have their own opinion, but I thought her album was HOT! There are only two songs on it that I skip over, but every other song is on point. I just hope she doesn’t stay away too long, but if she needs this break to get through some personal issues, then she should be aloud that.

It’s possible. She debuted higher this time but she was down a bit in sales numbers for her first week. IDK though. She has gained a lot of praise this one too. A Metacritic score of 84 is pretty good.

Both of her albums are fantastic and from the heart. It’s hard to say that about a lot of other music out there. I hope she changes her mind.

I am a huge huge Jazmine fan…have been for years…even before she got big.

This new album was weak. It doesn’t even compare to her debut at all

Maybe she’s young and really needs time off to get her thoughts and mind together the music business can be overwhelming sheesh give her a damn brake she can sing she writes her own songs I mean for a young woman I applaud her y does it always gotta be negative!

Nope…I don’t need to re-listen to it cause I’ve played it several times. I’ll keep playing her first album instead.

Her song writing was >>>> than this album lyrically, and content wise.

I’m not gonna pretend I love the album just because I love Jazmine. Her vocals were outstanding on the album though…but that’s to be expected. She could sing the alphabet and I would give it a listen lol

Wow!!!! Only thing I could think of is that she feels like she’s doing all this work and not getting the respect she deserves. I can see that not being fun but her first album was hot but for a follow up this album was very week and badly promoted.

She’s probably being controlled by her label. Its amazing when you find out who the actual unhappy puppets in the industry are. I wish her the best.

her first album didn’t even sell much more at this point in it’s run. It eventually went gold. I doubt her album sales are the problem.

She’s having management and label issues. They won’t release the singles that she wants IF they release one at all.

This album is one of the best albums I’ve ever heard. Some of you saying you were “fans” and u hated it are just lying. This album was definitely on point lyrically and everything else.

I was actually not a fan of the first album. The only song that gave me what I needed was “Bust your windows” and it took months to grow on me. I didn’t like “I need you bad” at all. I knew she could get it in vocally, but this album sold me on her as an artist. “Redemption” is a great example of her growth. That song told a story. The style of the verses is amazing and as always the vocals soar. You girls SIT if you’re not going to support Jazmine. Something is always a “flop” with you. You don’t to look any further than your own lives to see a flop.

OMG stop the lies. She probably quiting because nobody buying her shit just like lyfe jennings quit after ppl stopped checkin for him.

BLACK ppl do not really support anymore they go and download for free. and if you live in CANADA you can download music for free because its not illegal. thats why selling 40k copies in canada is GOLD status and 100k is platinum there.

her 1st album is still at 480k copies world wide and this new album is not even 100k copies yet and its in its 3rd or 4th week. thats bad. and chrissete michelle is doing worse. I bet she would not have said this i her album debuted with 100k + copies and was selling 40-50k a week

Why would Toya review an album from a TALENTED DARK SKINNED FEMALE WITH TALENT.Toya has self hate issues that is why she creams over boys who would never want her like JLS and no talent white singers like Cheryl Cole and Britney.

I dont think its a publicity stunt. She’s very underrated, she may just need some time to find herself. Hell if Maxwell came back after 8 years then I know Jazmine will. I wish her the best.

  34. 1st_one Says:

The album was very weak regardless of the numbers. She had 2 to 3 good tracks on the cd. I do understand she was never really a mainstream artist so throwing in the towel was obvious. Her record company more than likely was giving her shit about her sales and trying to push her to do things she didn’t deem fit. Oh well only the strong survives these days, the record industry is cut throat and it comes with the territory. I’m certain that everyone on her bragging about her album purchased it and have supported all of her tours. Yeah RIGHT!
