Fantasia’s new album underperforms…

We thought Fantasia would have sold MUCH more with her new album ‘Back To Me’ but some things don’t always happen the way you expect them to. The singer’s new LP managed a number two slot with sales in excess of just 122k sold in the US…

After the controversy surrounding her suicide attempt, a heavy promotional campaign and a VH1 reality show to boot, none of it was enough to bring in those all important first week numbers. You just know the label were probably scratching their heads once these numbers were finally released. Truth be told, the 26-year-old may not have had a mainstream hit from the new project, but her name was everywhere in the mainstream press and her promotion was much bigger than many of the acts that dropped this year. Very disappointing. Hopefully with a couple of strong follow-up singles, sales will pick up.

Ashanti honoured with NAACP Theatre Spirit Award…

R&B songstress Ashanti received the NAACP Theatre Spirit Award last night in Hollywood for her starring role as Dorothy in The Wiz:

Ms Douglas looked absolutely beautiful from head to toe. She’s one of those chicks that hardly has any off days and she takes so much pride in her appearance. Good for her on winning that award. She worked and sang her butt off for it. Well deserved. Check out two more flicks after the cut. Continue reading →

Keri Hilson unveils official artwork for ‘Breaking Point’…

Keri Hilson has unveiled the official artwork for her brand new single, ‘Breaking Point’

The Timbaland-produced cut is the first single to be lifted from her upcoming new album ‘No Boys Allowed’. As much as I like the track due to its oldschool elements, the cut just isn’t striking enough for radio. If she really wanted to put out a record that would display her newly improved vocals, she should have saved it for the second or third single and concentrate on releasing a dancefloor club stomper. I just hope that such a single choice does not result with the album getting pushed back.

Janet Jackson performs at ‘Essence Music Festival’ (performances)…

Janet Jackson was the headliner at The Essence Music Festival in New Orleans back in July, and professional footage is available to watch…

After the jump, you can now watch the full clip of ‘Rhythm Nation’ and the very bland ballad ‘Nothing’. Ms Jackson kicked up a dance storm with RN proving that twenty years later, she is still one of the most entertaining performers to ever grace a stage. Continue reading →

Trey Songz’ performs at ‘Essence Musical Festival’ (performances)…

The Essence Music Festival took place in New Orleans during the month of July but professional footage of the show has only just surfaced. R&B crooner Trey Songz performed for a crowd of lusty females during his set…

After the cut, you can check out his performances for his previous hit singles ‘I Need A Girl’, ‘Say Aah’ and ‘I Invented Sex’. As much as I enjoy his music, I don’t think I can ever go to one of his shows. He lacks fluidity and excitement. Plus, sex appeal can only go so far! Give me Usher any day of the week. As a performer, he just doesn’t do it for me. Sorry. Continue reading →

Would Beyonce Be “Queen B” If Aaliyah Were Here?

By La’Juanda “LJ” Knight.

When it comes to the greatest female entertainers of our generation, there are a few names that come up. Alicia Keys, Beyonce and Rihanna (which I don’t understand why). However, with the Beyonce explosion coming and hitting us hard in the late 90’s and never stopping, most people automatically give her the crown. Does she deserve it?

Picture-127-640x347She is a hard working woman however, that is something I have to question because not too long ago there was another very popular R&B songstress who was always on people’s minds and hearts. Sadly, she passed away right as her legend status was beginning to be aflame. I am speaking of Aaliyah. Continue reading →

Would TLC be on top if Lisa “Lefteye” Lopes were alive today?

If it weren’t for a tragic automobile accident eight years ago, the top female music group today probably would have condoms over their eyes. From 1990 – 2002, supergroup TLC was just that big and influential.

05-tlc-082707

Destiny’s Child would probably have remained mere children in music. The Spice Girls would never have even been manufactured. Countless female groups, many of them consisting of solo acts today, largely wouldn’t have even entered the business if it weren’t for this trio from Atlanta. How powerful was the musical juggernaut comprised of Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas? Continue reading →

New Artist: Tracie-Josphine…

“Music lives with me; it has invaded my thoughts and is the pioneer to my dreams just as God is the captain to my ship, I’m the passenger on his wings. The only thing that’s free and all over me, music has kidnapped me and made me its own now that I have it I must share it with the world.” When it comes to music, there’s no denying the passion and drive for it all.

Singer/Songwriter Tracie-Josephine’s love for music began at a very young age on a small island known as Grenada singing solos in church. She relocated to New York at age 18 to further pursue her dreams of creating music for a living. Her eclectic musical influences stem from Michael Jackson to Cold Play, from Bob Marley to Marvin Gaye, from Lauryn Hill to Joss Stone. Continue reading →

Alesha Dixon performs ‘Drummer Boy’ on ‘Suck My Pop’…

Alesha Dixon delivered another performance of new single ‘Drummer Boy’ over the weekend. She performed the track on VIVA’s ‘Suck My Pop’ show, here in the UK:

My ears just won’t embrace this song but nevertheless, Ms Dixon stays performing the hell out of it. A good little performer she really is, and with much of that stage charisma seriously lacking on this side of the pond, the former Mis-teeq songstress is most certainly a pleasure to watch on screen.

Nelly Furtado performs new songs from ‘Lifestyle’ album…

Nelly Furtado exclusively premiered some new songs over the weekend from her upcoming new album ‘Lifestyle’. The new songs were unveiled as she headlined the Orange Warsaw Festival in Poland over the weekend:

As well as performing some of her biggest hits to a sold-out crowd, she debuted two new songs from from her upcoming LP such as ‘Girlfriend In This City’ and the Salaam Remi-produced ‘Free’. Unfortunately, there’s no word on when the project will hit stores. As many readers would know, Nelly has always been a guilty pleasure of mine even from her ‘On The Radio’ days, but when she dropped her amazing ‘Loose’ album, this chick couldn’t do any wrong in my eyes.
.
You can check out her performance of ‘Free’ after the cut. Another performance video of her new music can be watched here. Shouts to Mary Mag and The Prophet for the video(s). Continue reading →

Leona Lewis attends her brother’s wedding…

Leona Lewis is pictured with her older brother, 29-year-old Bradley Lewis at his wedding very recently:

She looks absolutely stunning, and her brother looks nice as well. As we reported yesterday, the 25-year-old starts recording her new album this week. This was confirmed by Larry Jackson, vice president of J Records. I look forward to hearing the new music next year, and we’ll keep you up to date on all her latest recording sessions. As I said before, as long as she stays away from Ryan Tedder, she’s good.

JLS prep new US single ‘Ay Mama’…

The new JLS US single is called ‘Ay Mama’ and to those who were wondering about the female vocals on the track, it has now been confirmed as Shontelle!

The Runners-produced ‘Ay Mama’ impacts US radio on Sept 14th and a new music video is expected to be shot shortly. The lads premiered the song over in Canada a few weeks ago during a performance which we posted here. So the speculation that it was Rihanna/Nicki Minaj on the song can now be put to bed. I’m not going to lie but if they would consider Shontelle, they should have just fought hard to get Rihanna on the track instead. The chick is radio food to the Hot 100. Anyway, I look forward to hearing the song in high quality in the next two weeks. It is one of their strongest singles and it’s great they are STILL fighting hard to achieve success in the US.

Les Nubians Returns…

I just got word that Les Nubians will release their fourth studio album “Nu Revolution” in September! The Grammy-nominated French-born sisters are known for their unique and sultry take on world R&B music with a French language twist.

l_3b112afa07b74eb088fb15325b57d430

We were introduced to Les Nubians on their debut album “Princesses Nubiennes” in 1998.” The ladies quickly became a fixture on the underground music scene with tracks like “Makeda” and “Embrasse Moi.”

Rihanna’s new single ‘Cheers’ produced by The Runners…

We now have the OFFICIAL names behind the alleged new Rihanna single ‘Cheers’. Top rated producers The Runners have taken FULL CREDIT for PRODUCING the song. The track is co-written by Stacy Barthee and Corey Chorus!

However, The Runners are NOT confirming that it is the brand new single: “For all the questions about Rihanna. We cannot confirm what the first single will be. Only LA Reid can” they tweet.
.
I have never seen so much mystery and anticipation surrounding one single since Britney Spears ‘Gimme More’. And am I the only one relieved it’s not produced by David Guetta? I’m not a fan of his work.

Brandy officially joins ‘Dancing With The Stars’…

R&B songstress Brandy has officially joined ‘Dancing With The Stars’. The singer is set to leave her mark on the 11th season of ABC’s hit show and also showing audiences that she’s fast becoming reality show fodder in the process…

Click here to view the first official photo of the cast. The 32-year-old is also featured on her own reality show, the VH1 series, ‘A Family Business’, which has also been picked up for a second season. We’re really happy that Brandy is being given many interesting opportunities ahead of her brand new album but I can’t help thinking that maybe this is a little overkill on her behalf? Either way, let us know what you think.

Christina Aguilera unveils new ‘Burlesque’ promo poster…

Brand new official artwork for Christina Aguilera’s new movie ‘Burlesque’ has hit online shores:

Click on artwork to view the full promo poster. The upgrade looks fab. It has lots more diva glam and feminine appeal to it than the previous poster that was floating around previously. This movie could be make or break for Christina. With the singer’s music career hitting an all time slump, a hit movie is exactly what the 29-year-old needs to redeem herself of such woes. You can watch the movie on November 24th when it hits US theatres.

Lady Gaga: ‘Living On The Radio’ (New Song)…

Pop phenomenon Lady Gaga performed another brand new song at her ‘Monster Ball’ concert in St. Paul, Minnesota last night:

The song, which is expected to make her upcoming new album is titled ‘Living On The Radio’. The piano ballad sounds like it was cut from the same cloth as her other recent ballads ‘You & I’ and ‘Speechless’. The 24-year-old personally shouts out her little monsters in the songs lyrics and references her own popstar lifestyle. Nice song. Continue reading →
