Hits Daily Double has unveiled the stats for Kelis’s new album ‘Flesh Tone’, and it is a CERTIFIED FLOP!
The project did triple toilet water after selling a very lacklustre 7833 copies, placing her at a very low #46 on the US chart this week. I’m very aware that the 30-year-old was never big on sustaining large sales but this is just dismal and marks the lowest sales of her whole entire career.
I did not think anyone could do worse than Amerie who only pushed 12K with ‘In Love & War’ last year. And when someone told me last week that she was predicted to sell in the 5K-7K range, I didn’t believe them. I’m sure she’s not crying about the sales though. She is already laughing at the amount of money she is getting from ex-husband Nas for child and spousal support on a monthly basis. So when people are quick to shout ‘karma’, I don’t quite think so…

@Face, Rihanna did flop her album only sold 400,000 but Def Jam was smart to ship a million copies so it can be certified platinum which is what many record companies do for artists nowdays since record sales are in the dumps. In regards to KELIS she never wanted to become famous or be a “pop star” she stated that several times. She writes music and if someone likes what she wrote then they will support it and if they don’t then she said that’s okay cuz she wouldn’t changes thing! I bought the album (first Kelis album I ever bought) and it was surprisingly great. She’s underestimated and it’s always the good ones.

Why anyone is surprised actually is more of a shocker. Kelis is not a big seller, especially with her change of sound.
The REAL REASON why this album failed is b/c it was already released a full month before in the UK. This gave everyone time to download for free all over the world. Who would buy an album when they already heard it and have it for free from all these ‘wonderful’ file sharing websites?
I know understand why artist have a problem with DL illegally.
Same goes for Bionic. Christina’s album would have done a lot better if it was not leaked two weeks before its release date. Come on now… no one mentions that when it comes to her poor album sales. Bionic is a 9 out of 10 album….Grammy award deserving! Her team really should have pushed up the release date from June 8th. She also should have released a more interesting single, like ‘Bionic’, instead of the same ole RnB/POP song ‘Not Myself Tonight’. Bionic as a single would have showed her growth as an artist rather than her doing the same ole thing everyone else is out there….

You know what? I’m still going to say it…KARMA’S a b—h ain’t it! Her album tanked for a number of reasons and one is because the music did not appeal to her previous fanbase. Dance music fans may like it but to me it is damn near unlistenable. Then there is the stuck up, pretentiousness, the PETA backlash and of course the divorce backlash. People don’t like gold-diggers and just plain arrogant people, and that is what she has become. Good thing the check’s in the mail. She never lied when she said her survival was based on Nas.

She’s signed to a small imprint at Interscope. Most of the album was paid for before she had a deal. And yes, it’s a dance record. Not pop, r&b, or rock. Dance, which is a niche genre. They weren’t expecting grand sales, especially since her singles did not debut on the Hot 100, etc. The sales are a reflection of what they thought she would. Not great, but she wasn’t aiming for a #1, at all. You like it, you buy it. To wish her karma and etc after having a baby and winning against Nas, seriously you all need to back up. Not your business to even get worried about. So stop acting like it is.
This is no surprise did any of her singles chart outside the dance charts. I was a big fan of hers and this album is good for a dance album, but I cant tolerate listening to it for very long. Not to mention the fact that she cant sing at all anymore.

At the end of the day, Flesh Tone is one the best album to drop this year. None of your fave pop stars could make incredible album like FLESH TONE.

I like Kelis BUT I think in America she had an urban audience and since she did a drastic switch to dance music the urban fans didn’t buy the album.
I bought the album but I’m not American and I love it! The dance songs on this CD are excellent!

In the UK Kelis has been doing much better with this new album. Acapella was a top 5 hit in the UK!
