Sony Pictures has released the first trailer from The Karate Kid. Will and Jada’s 11-year-old son Jaden Smith replaces Ralph Macchio in the upcoming Kung-fu flick:
When I first heard that they were remaking the 1984 motion picture classic, my reaction was iffy. When I was growing up, I was a massive fan of the original. I thought Ralph Macchio was soooo cute! Plus I liked his lines: “No offense, Mr Miyajee, but I don’t think you understand my problem”. Some movies do not need to be remade and this is undoubtedly one of them.
.
Maybe I’m just trying to hold onto a piece of my childhood and want to remember it the way it was. But out of curiousity, I’ll most likely see it as it looks like a cute little family movie. I liked him when he played his father’s costar in ‘The Pursuit of Happyness’. On another note, you have to applaud the Smith’s for their nepotism.
.
The remake follows the same formula as the original such as the bullied youth meeting the eccentric mentor. The young lad moves to China with his mother where he embraces karate. Jaden has already been schooled in martial arts, so I guess the movie will have some sort of authencity.
.
The Karate Kid hits theaters on June 11th, 2010.

And its nice to see he FINALLY braided his hair
Will had little man lookin crazy!
For fuck sake, stop copying That Grape Juice!!! They do this feature…..u r some hypocrit
Um well yaa Toya, but it does make sense for them to have chosen their son for a movie such as that. I t would have been even better had Jada played the mother.
Aww, and it comes with a hip hop soundtrack to boot. I’m not sold on this remake. The original is a classic and a definitive coming of age story about finding one’s strength and identity. I think Smith’s character is too young. As far as fending off bullies, I can see that, but I hope they don’t try to push some “romance” angle. I mean, the boy’s eleven!
I agree with Pirouette, Jaden does just seem a bit too young for this role. As of now I have no interest in checking it out.
stop being so sensitive, the remake looks like a good watch and more than “a cute little family film.” Movies are made for remakes and who knows it might be better The Wiz was way better than The Wizard of Oz.
aww..come on…stop being so serious..half of ya’ll wasn’t even thinking about the original until now..lol..
the original is a classic, but let’s give it to the boy..he got skills. I will support and go see this. There is NOTHING new under the sun anyways. We all know it’s the same concept, but this lil’ boy looks like he is going to be an even greater actor when he gets older.
the wiz was not better than the wizard of oz.
It looks pretty good but you sometimes they put more hype into the trailer than they do the actually movie but I’ll check it out…..
Taraji seems to be the new “It” girl in hollywood….I’ll support anything she’s in….she’s what’s up!
if u dont like it…dont go support it..end of story
Damn Jackie getting old; how is he now bout 50
This looks stupid as hell and I don’t even think I’ll rent it. He looks about 6 years old.
“THE KARATE KID” in CHINA?!?!?!…
hellooo!!!
what authenticity?
